On Monday, June 21, the Western Regional Football Association (WRFA), will be receiving an amount of GHC20,000 in a form of support from the Western Regional Co-ordinating Council (WRCC), led by Western Regional Minister, Mr. Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah, at Gyendu Park in Sekondi.
In an interview on Friday, June 18, with Skyy Power 93.5FM’s Sampson Aban, the Regional Minister indicated that his office will be presenting the money to WRFA to aid them sustain the Division 2 League in the region.
He said, “We have had interactions with WRFA chairman for a while and we thought it wise to sponsor the Division 2 league, so on Monday, we are presenting an amount of GHC20,000 to kick start the league”
“I believe we have talented players here in the Western Region that needs to be pushed, our aim is to see our players in the Premier league,” he added.
He further addressed that, football has turned out to be business unlike the previous years where it was played for the fun of it and his office is ready to help clubs with business plans to some make profit
“I believe football is business, and I want the teams to bring me their business plans that is profitable, my position has been consistent, get me your business plans and we will push for the money to play, make profit and take the profit to pay back to the investors.”
The Regional Minister also emphasised on the current state of the pitches in Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis and took the opportunity to thank the NPP government for the construction Astro Turfs for various communities.
He indicated that his constituents should exercise patience as his constituency will also benefit from community Astro Turf Project.
