The newly built market in Whindo, in the Effia Kwesimintsim Municipality of the Western Region is about to be free of spirits after the gods of the land are pacified with items it demanded.
The market was abandoned by traders who were supposedly to occupy the facility due to fears that, the location of the market was a cemetery some 30 years ago, and believe spirits still hover around that area and their business might not be fruitful if the gods are not pacified.
However, speaking to the assemblyman in the area on Skyy Power 93.5FM on Thursday, July 8, Mr. Alex Acheampong made it known that, the gods demanded a red cow, red sheep and red goat after a traditional priestess consulted them.
Skyy Power FM’s reporter Nana Yaw Kumi, was at the scene and reported that, the preparation of the sacrifice is ongoing at the Whindo’s Chief palace.
Also, Nana Kwabena Adjei, the Chief Linguist made it known that, ‘etow’ a Ghanaian delicacy made of mashed yam and plantain mixed with red oil was also being prepared for the gods.
He said, “The food is being prepared by the women in the palace, the ‘etow’ is done in three forms, the one made with plantain only, yam only and another one made with yam mixed with red oil”
“After it is done, the cow, goats and sheep which is to be used for the ritual will lead the proceeding, followed by the women carrying the ‘etow’, with the elders and chief priestess also behind, nobody will eat any of the food.” he added.
Furthermore, Nana Adjei made it known that the traders will not accommodate the market immediately but they will find a market day to do a grand opening to commission the facility for business after the ritual.
