Westside Carnival 2022 boosts the economy of Sekondi-Takroadi
The biggest Christmas attraction in Ghana, the Westside Carnival has once again put Takoradi on the world map as thousands troop the beautiful city to witness the beautiful masquerader’s culture.
This year’s Westside Carnival which was scheduled for 3 days live up to its expectation and provided beautiful family time with spectacular performances for patrons.
The first day of the carnival, Saturday, December 24, kickstarted with an Ebony float, National Lotteries Authorities (NLA) live draw featuring Kalybos and Jessica, MoMo market and music night.
The music nights saw musicians in the Western Region showcasing their talents and later climaxed with a performance from Kwabena Kwabena.
It is a known fact that the Westside Carnival is the key attraction that has made Sekondi-Takoradi the most enjoyable Christmas destination in Ghana.
The second day of the event came with the maiden edition of the brass band competition which is to showcase and publicise the various brass band groups we have in the city since Sekondi-Takoradi is now the current leading hub of brass band groups and music.
Out of 15 groups that competed for the ultimate price, Bossplay came out the best to claim the ultimate price of the best brass band group in the region, walking away with cash prices and souvenirs from Ebony Condoms and Adonko 2 Fingers.
The night was climaxed with a Gospel Music Praise Festival, featuring Lady Joy, EL Manuel, KDM and Koda.
The Friday Night hitmaker, Lasmid, who was also billed for the night thrilled the audience with a memorable performance.
The biggest day of the event, which was the 26th of December, saw 27 masquerader groups in a fashion parade showcasing their new costumes and explaining to the general public the reason for their design.
It was a night to remember and never to forget as the unique masquerader’s culture of Sekondi-Takoradi gave patrons a mouth-watering experience and value for their time.
Adina Thembi and Obrafour climaxed the night with thrilling performances for the fans.
The event, not only did it bring happiness to the people of Takoradi and beyond but also contributed to the economy of the region as every hotel in the city was fully booked and sales of products were at an all-time high since business owners took advantage of the MoMo market at the carnival grounds.
Business owners who spoke to Skyy News after the event claimed their products were sold out and appreciated the carnival as it has not only put Sekondi-Takoradi on the world map but has helped boost the economy.
