Western Region records first COVID-19 recovery, case count hits 38
The Western Region has recorded its first recovery case of the novel coronavirus. Reports have it that, the Chinese national at the Coastal Quarry has tested negative for the second time, and thus been ‘clinically’ cleared of the viral infection.
As at Friday morning, the region’s case count had hit a total of thirty-eight (38); resulting from an additional five (5) new cases confirmed by the Takoradi Veterinary Service Lab, yesterday.
Four of the new cases are from the Sekondi Takoradi Metropolis, bringing to total 14 confirmed cases; the remainder (1) from Effia Kwesimintsim Municipality bringing its case count to two (2). Refer to the link to learn more
Deputy Director of Health, in-charge of Clinical Care for the Western Region, Dr. Atsu Dodor told Samuel Kojo Brace [host of the Jolly Breakfast Show on Skyy Power fm], that the region is likely to have the cases rise, as the laboratory continue to run tests on samples taken on suspected persons and contacts of the infected ones.
4 Zonal Isolation Centers to be prepared
The Regional Health Directorate is working through the Regional Coordinating Council to set up zonal isolation centers to manage patients of the disease. These centers are to compliment existing thirteen (13) centers identified among health facilities in the Western Region.
Dr. Dodor explained that the four new centers which are being prepared will be used to isolate patients who are asymptomatic, and also to absorb cases of overwhelmed treatment facilities.
“That center will be responsible for managing cases that are asymptomatic so that the hospitals may now concentrate on cases that have symptoms, and that may need daily or frequent attendance. We can also use it when there is an overflow” he said.
Per considerations taken by the directorate, the Wassa East, Mpohor, Shama, Sekondi Takoradi, and Effia-Kwesimintsim Municipality will be assigned one zonal isolation center, the Jomoro, Ellembele, Nzema East, and Ahanta West will have one, whiles the Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipality will have one isolation center all to itself.
The Amenfi West, Amenfi East, Amenfi Central and Prestea Huni-Valley will have one of the isolation center set up to manage such cases.
