President Akufo Addo says some capital projects in the country may delay following the government’s engagement with the International Monetary Fund IMF.
Nana Akufo Addo says as part of the conditionality with IMF it may require a disruption of some of the government’s infrastructure programmes but assured that they will be tackled and completed by the end of 2024.
The President was Speaking at a meeting with The Paramount Chiefs of the Western Region, The Western Regional Minister – Hon. Kwabena Okyere Darko Mensah, The Western Regional NPP Chairman – Hon. Francis Ndede Siah, and the Western Regional Members of Parliament at the Jubilee House.
Discussions centred mainly on key developmental concerns within the Western Region including stalled road and other infrastructure projects, and the need for a Western Regional nomination/representation on the Supreme Court bench, among other key issues.
Nana Akufo Addo said the IMF’s balance of payment support will go a long way to help the country.
He said, “There will be some temporary delays whiles we are making the agreement with the IMF which is what we are experiencing now but at the end of the day we will continue the project and it is necessary to tell you that.”
The chiefs assured him of support for his programmes to turn around the economy and asked the president to bring technical men to the regions to explain his financial restructuring, especially the domestic debt programme.
