Five (5) out of eleven (11) constituencies in the Western Region would have to wait as the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the National Democratic Congress has suspended elections in those constituencies. This follows a decision by the NEC of the party to suspend the primaries in five constituencies.

Regional organizer of the NDC, Japhet Baidoo confirmed this to Samuel Kojo Brace on the Jollly Breakfast Show (JBS) on Skyy Power FM, Thursday.

‘‘We only opened nominations for 11 constituencies out of the 17 in the region. There was no need to open nominations in three of the 11 constituencies because the aspirants stood unopposed. Those constituencies are Prestea Huni Valley, Wassa East and Effia constituencies. The elections in Mpohor and Ellembelle have also been put on hold by the National Executive Council. So the six constituencies where the elections will be held are Shama, Sekondi, Ahanta West, Jomoro, Amenfi Central and Amenfi West.

He also added that the party was yet to open nominations for three other constituencies.

‘‘I am unable to speak to the reasons that have necessitated the suspension of the elections in these constituencies. Let me add that we are yet to open nominations for three constituencies incljuding Essikado, and Tarkwa-Nsuaem. However, they are expected to go the polls in September barring any last minute developments,’’ he said.

It is however unclear what the issues are in the six remaining constituencies.
