Regional Director for the Western Region Land Use and Spatial Planning Authority, Mr. Isaac Affum has presented ten (10) bags of cement to Skyy Media Group in support of the construction of a school project in Tumantu, a farming community in the Mpohor District of the Western Region. The initiative is in response to a documentary aired on Skyy Power FM titled; ‘The Cry of Tumantu’, which chronicles the challenges the residents go through to educate their children due to the lack of a school in the community.
In the documentary produced by Skyy Power FM’s Samuel Kojo Brace, we are told by the residents that many children in the community do not go to school, as a result. The few, whose parents can afford, are made to walk long distances to have access to education in other communities. Some are driven on motorbikes, whilst others are packed into tractors, when lucky to find one. This has affected the community negatively. Many young people, who could have become future leaders of the country, are made to stay home without any form of formal education.
After the documentary aired, many listeners of the station have called in to help provide a school for the community. Mr. Affum, who is an ardent listener of Skyy, called into the Jolly Breakfast Last week and promised to support the project with ten bags of cement. This is what he honoured this morning.
Speaking to Skyy News after the donation, Mr. Isaac Affum indicated that, no child must be left behind on the education ladder. He says every Ghanaian child deserves equal right to education.
“Education is the key to development in any nation. Without education, we cannot move forward in life. So when I heard about the Tumantu story, I felt I needed to help,” he stated.
Mr. Affum, who is also the Chief Executive Officer of Royal Great Consult – a Takoradi-based land and housing company, implored other individuals and organizations to support the course.
“And I will urge others to respond so that together, we can all help these kids to learn, and have a better future. When you come to the city, most pupils study in a very comfortable environment, meanwhile they will all write same exam with those in Tumantu. But if they are all provided with same facilities, we will see there are no differences in kids who study in the city and those in the deprived areas,” he stated.
His donation was received by the Programs Manager of Skyy Power FM, Michael Gawu (Premier Gawu), and the Head of the Current Affairs Department of Skyy Power FM, Samuel Kojo Brace, on behalf of the Skyy Media Group.
