A total of fourteen (14) educational institutions in the Western Region have recorded cases of the novel coronavirus infection. These institutions comprises; two (2) tertiary institutions and twelve (12) senior high schools. These cases are recorded in six districts of the region, with the Nzema East being the worst hit (26 cases). The Shama District, Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis, and Amenfi West Municipality have recorded  19, 17, and 6 cases of COVID-19 infections respectively. The two others; Prestea Huni Valley and Tarkwa Nsuaem have recorded 5 and 2 cases respectively.

Among the Senior High Schools which have been hit by the COVID-19 infection, the Nsein SHS alone has 26 cases, Shama SHS 19 cases, and Adiembra SHS 6 cases. The chart below has the breakdown of cases.

The Western Region Director for Health Service, Dr. Jacob Mahama at a press briefing today on the theme; “Continuing Quality Health Service Delivery Amid COVID-19 Pandemic Challenges” , disclosed that the service will continue to monitor and a manage cases of the viral infection in these schools to avert a widespread on campus.

Regional Surveillance on COVID-19

As at today, a total of 2,467 cases of COVID-19 have been recorded in the Western Region, out of which 2,216 have been discharged and 6 patients have passed away. The Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipality tops the chart with 639 cases, followed by Sekondi-Takoradi with 632 cases. The Amenfi West Municipality at the border of the region to the Western North has record 442 cases. The figure below has details.
