The Western Regional Commander for the Motor, Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD), Chief Supt. Isaac Kwesi Sorkpah, revealed two road accidents were recorded in Takoradi during the weekend which left five in critical condition at the hospital.
Speaking on Skyy Power 93.5FM’s Jolly Breakfast Show on Monday, July 12, he explained that a young man by name Michael Opoku, was driving to visit his sister in Nkroful on Sunday, July 11, when he had a break failure on the Radiant Street, leading him to crash into two children who were playing under a tree a few metres from the road.
He indicated that, the children in the ages of 12 and 13 years old were badly injured when a good Samaritan, who pounced on the scene, rushed them to the Effia-Nkwanta Hospital to receive treatment.
The Commander indicated that Michael, is in the Police Custody and investigation is being carried out by the police to uncover more facts about the cause of accident.
Also, he disclosed another road accident during the weekend in the Nkomtompo area where an elderly man driving a private vehicle rammed into three pedestrians that were walking by the road.
According to him, the three were also in a critical condition when they got admitted at the hospital totalling five casualties during the weekend.
Emphasizing on the road accidents during the weekend, he cautioned vehicle drivers to be cautious and also put much effort to service and make sure their vehicles are road worthy before they put them on the road.
He made it known as vehicle drivers are taught to be cautious on the road, pedestrians must also be and adhere to traffic regulations in order to avoid being hurt by drivers.
