The chief of Mahamo, Nana Kwabena Gyan II in the Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipality has expressed his displeasure towards the decision by the government to build a constituency office in the constituency when the Mahamo M.A Basic School is in a dilapidated condition.
According to the chief, Mahamo M.A Basic School is one of the best schools in terms of academic performance and they normally have good grades in the Basic Certificate Examination Exams ( BECE). But the only school in the community is now a death trap to the children. The school buildings are weak and whenever it rains, the students have to close for the day because the classrooms floods and that affects the learning of the children in the school especially during the raining seasons.
Also, he expressed shock by the decision of the government to build a constituency office rather than renovating or building a new school block after all the efforts he has made towards the course.
However, he also indicated he has consulted the Tarkwa Nsuaem MP, Mireku Duker, including the DCE and the District Director of Education in the Municipality in relation to the situation of the school but seems all his pleas have been ignored. He claims he is now living in constant fear for the lifes of the children as anything can happen any moment from now.
Moreover, he is calling on the necessary bodies, including the government and NGO’s to come to the aid of Mahamo M.A Basic School and help in building or renovating their school to continue the quality education agenda in Ghana.
