A former party chair of the New Patriotic Party in Essikado- Ketan Constituency, James Obeng Junior has bemoaned the manner with which party affairs are being run in the area. He laments the constituency has, since its establishment in 2004, been run from a garage of the incumbent legislator – a practice he described as disgraceful for the party.

Mr Obeng Junior, who is aspiring for the parliamentary candidature of the party in the Essikado-Ketan Constituency, believes his coming, will usher a new dawn of progressive and inclusive development for the people.

Speaking exclusively to Skyy News about the changes he seek to make with his nomination and if successful, as a Member of Parliament for the area, Mr Obeng Junior detailed that setting up a decent office complex for the party, is among priorities he’s challenged himself with.

“This is not an office. It should never be situated in a member of parliament’s house. If every member of parliament decides that the party office should be at his/her house, and tomorrow he decides he’s not going to run for the party again, where will our office be? Where is our office for the party? Sekondi has an office, Takoradi has an office, Effia, and Kwesmintsim all have, but in Essikado Ketan, we don’t have an office. What we have is a garage!

“For a Essikado-Ketan, I’ve promised them that if I’m given the nod, by God’s grace and the delegates and the constituents as a whole, I’m going to build a befitting office – an ultra-modern office in Essikado – and open two zonal offices because the constituency is big; one at Kojokrom, and one between Nkroful and Fijai,” he exclaimed.

He berated the MP [Joe Ghartey], for his failure in providing this facility despite the unrivaled opportunities he’s enjoyed over the past sixteen years.

“The member of parliament has been there for sixteen good years. He has been a cabinet minister under Kuffour’s government, he has been a cabinet minister under the current government, so we think that he can do more, and he must do more for Essikado-Ketan, especially the NPP. That’s why the people are saying that, now, they need a new face,” he stated.

To what seem to be insinuating, that the incumbent MP has failed to secure vehicles and other logistics, in the name of the party, and just for his personal interest and political ambition, Mr Obeng Junior said he will procure, brand and register all assets in the name of the party and constituency.

“…and also procure a brand new pick-up for he constituency, branded ‘Essikado-Ketan’. The reason being that people come with their vehicles as MPs and when they are going, they go with the vehicles. When they go with these vehicles, how will we run the party?” he fired.

Should, Mr Obeng Junior succeed in filling his nomination before February 20, 2020, and pass the vetting process, he will be the very first person to have competed Hon. Joe Ghartey for the parliamentary candidature for the NPP in the constituency.
