WAPCO @10: Regional Minister urged industries to develop communities

The Western Regional Minister Hon. Kwabena Okyere Darko Mensah has urged corporate organizations in the Shama enclave to help improve the standard of living of natives of the district.

According to him, this could be attained when corporate organizations will tailor their Corporate Social Responsibility geared toward improving the quality of life of the people in their catchment area.

” l want to see you developing communities you operate, l want to see them developed into modern communities, not villages, do not keep them in poverty let them leave above poverty” he urged.

Mr Kwabena Okyere Darko Mensah made the call as he deliver a keynote address as West African Gas Pipeline Company marks 10 years of operation in the region.

The Hon. Regional minister, however, commended West African Gas Pipeline Company for supporting 5 communities in the district and helping 500 indigence of Shama District to obtain livelihood skills

” l commend WAPCO for the developmental project undertaken, WAPCO has contributed to the development of Five host communities in the Shama District, Shama, Lower Inchaban, Abuesi, Dwomo and Aboadzi, through educational projects embarked in these communities”

He added that ” the company has supported over 503 indigence o the district through its livelihood enhancing policies and its scholarship project, l will entreat you to publish the good things you are doing for the people ao the world will know what you are doing”

Managing Director for WAPCO, Mr Gregory Germani on his part highlighted the success chalked in the 10 years of commercial operation.

According to him, ” WAPCO is a fulfilment of an ECOWAS vision to have a gas pipeline across the West African sub-region…to promote economic integration among member states”.

He added that” with the support from the Government of Ghana, GNPC, Ghana Gas and technical support from Eni Ghana, we have completed part of the larger Takoradi to Tema Interconnection Project with an addition of a new process area capable of receiving up to 225 MMscfd of natural”.

Mr Gregory Germani commended traditional leaders and staff of WAPCO for the support and pledge to continuously support the communities and their indigence.
