Virtuous Boardroom, a Non-Governmental Organization in the Western Region, has empowered some less fortunate adolescent ladies of the Ahanta West municipality.
They have put some of these young ladies into schools, and others into skills trainings. Some of the ladies too are being sent back to school for formal education.
The Organisation says this initiative is to help the young women get their lives back, and not allow their present situations to sway them off their life ambitions.
Explaining further on the purpose behind this initiative by the organisation, Yaa Amoako-Adu, President of Virtuous Boardroom, explained that this is to help give meaning back to the lives of these young ladies who have, unfortunately, had to get pregnant at very tender ages.
“It is about time we get people on their toes; to let them know their values as human beings on earth. We don’t need to relax because we think that is what God gave us. It will go a long way if they are really ready; I always say that determination and focus should be our main purpose. If they are determined to arrive at where they want to go, they will see the need of what we’ve given them today and make use of it,” she said.
She explained that they have put in place a robust mechanism to help the Organisation to track the progress of each beneficiary.
“We’ve been to their various homes to check on them and to interact with their parents to find out if they are really ready to accept what we are going to give them. We have a Monitoring and Evaluation team in place that will be going periodically to check what they are doing. We will go to their schools to find out what they are doing right; to their workplaces to see if they are working. If they are not working, I’m sure their Madams will report to us so that we will take their machines and give them to people who are really ready,” shed intimated.
Yaa Amoako-Adu reiterated that their mission is to help groom young women to attain higher heights in life.
“The mission or core mandate of the organization is to groom young women to reach their potential, sponsoring needy but brilliant girls through university and mentoring them after school,” she stated.
She added that Ahanta West municipality is one of the key epicenters with regards to teenage pregnancy in the Western Region, and that is also one of the factors that influenced their decision to choose Ahanta West as a beneficiary district for their initiative.
Hon Henrietta Mary Eyison (MCE Ahanta West) also thanked the Virtuous Boardroom for the empowerment given to these young ladies and asked all major companies, NGOs and other groups to do the same.
