The US is planning to boycott G20 meetings that are attended by Russia due to the war in Ukraine, according to Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen.
“We will not be participating in a number of meetings if the Russians are there,” Yellen said at a hearing in the US House of Representatives on Wednesday.
She added that Indonesia, which currently holds the presidency of the G20 group of industrialized nations, had already been informed of the decision.
US President Joe Biden had called for Russia to be removed from the G20 forum in response to the Ukraine war last month. China had then spoken out against such a move.
The next G20 summit is scheduled to be held on the Indonesian island of Bali on November 15-16.
