Update ((Audio)): Police narrates how the Asuahyiam robbery was carried out

The Asankrangwa Divisional Command of the Ghana Police Service has provided some detail regarding the arrest of four youngster who attempted to rob a lottery agent Monday dawn, Asuohyiam, a village near Samreboi in the Wassa Amenfi West Municipality of the Western Region.

According to the Divisional Commander, Chief Supt. Nana Kumi, the suspects learnt of how to carry the said act/operation from another team in the community, but failed to execute the crime in their very first act.

The lead suspect, a mechanic, whose name was given as Issah Yakubu, aged 22, is said to have contracted her girlfriend; Cynthia Pomaah, aged 18 and resident of Samreboi, to lure the lottery agent [Samuel Dugu, 45 years] into having sexual affair with her, so they could gain access to the victim’s room.

Two other accomplices; Emmanuel Essau, 19 year old and apprentice to the Yakubu, and Dennis Gyimah, 20 years and a disc jockey; all resident in Asuahyiam, have also been picked up by the police.

Narrating how the four carried out the said operation on Tuesday dawn [around 2am], Chief Supt. Kumi said the lady called the victim the afternoon of that unfortunate day, asking for financial assistance. The victim offered to help her on condition she make love with him for three nights, so she can earn an amount of GHC300.00.

“She agreed and visited the lottery agent that night. At midnight, she woke up to pass urine, unknown to the victim, Ms. Pomaah had left the door to his room opened so the three young men could enter and carryout the robbery. Yakubu held a gun, whilst the rest armed themselves with a machete and a club.

“But the man was strong to over power Yakubu in a struggle. The three guys bolted. The young lady was confronted by the victim, who suspected her to be an accomplice to the criminals. Upon interrogation, Ms. Pomaah admitted having plotted with the assailants to rob him” Chief Supt. Kumi said in an interview on a local based radio station in Takoradi.

They have all admitted perpetuating the crime, and being processed to face the law.
