The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has been hit by another blow as their annual ‘Prof John Evans Atta Mills Commemorative Lecture’ has been suspended.
This was effected and subsequently announced by the host of this year’s event; University of Cape Coast.
Deputy Registrar for the University, Retired Major Kofi Boah-Bentum who issued a press release explained that the suspension has become necessary as a result of the current limitations imposed on public gathering in this COVID-19 pandemic. He thus apologised in behalf of the university community for any inconvenience caused. He however assured that the ceremony would be activated when things normalize.
On another leg, the university justified that; “the hosting of the annual event alternate between Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) and UCC, and this year UCC’s turn to host the lecture.”
Atta Mills died on July 24, 2012, while he was head of state of Ghana. A library was built in the late president’s honour.
An official response from the NDC fraternity is yet to be delivered.
