Tullow Ghana hands over new shore base to Ghana Air force

Tullow Ghana limited, the lead operator of Ghana’s jubilee field has successfully refurbished the Takoradi Airport Apron and handed it over to the Ghana Air Force. The entire Takoradi Airport Tarmac required the reconstruction of an area of 22,622 square meters with wide range excavations. To this end, through its strategic investment, Tullow Ghana has completed the rehabilitation of almost 5,000 square meters of the tarmac, with 4,980m of road network. The project was undertaken by P.W Ghana at a cost of 2.2 million dollars, within a nine month schedule.

Parking zones around the Takoradi Air force base were also redeveloped to improve accessibility and safety.

The refurbished apron has been certified for environmental health and safety standards, and thus provides a larger parking space for larger airplanes, helicopters and additional aviation services.   It also ensures a seamless transition of passengers to and from the aircraft, and improves accessibility for all who utilize the Takoradi airport.

Managing Director and Executive Vice President of Tullow Ghana, Mr Kwaku Awotwe in his remark at the handing over ceremony, reiterated the company’s commitment to impacting positively in the Ghanaian community and also enhancing output of the the oil and gas sector.

“Tullow’s commitment is to ensure that our operations positively impacts the oil and gas value chain in Ghana and that we have a positive impact on the well-being of the communities in which we operate. It is this ideal, this philosophy that is embedded in our principle of shared prosperity and we are proudly handing over the airport apron today to the benefit of the people of Ghana” he noted.

He justified that, the investment is not out of place as Tullow and its partners have benefited immensely from the Takoradi Airport.

“Tullow and our partners have benefited hugely from the airport apron, and the success of this investment does not just depend on flying in and out of Takoradi. It also depends on ensuring that all our people and communities in which we operate, return home safe and well at the end of every working day. And it is this expectation of Tullow and the partners that the handing over of this apron will hold an improved face of quality aviation services in Ghana” Mr kwaku Awotwe indicated.

Minister for Aviation Joseph Kofi Adda on his part applauded Tullow Ghana for the gesture and implored other organisations to emulate same. He further indicated that plans are far advanced by the ministry to ensure an ultra-modern international passenger airport is built in the Western Region. He says land has already been secured and work on the project will soon begin.

Base Commander, Eric Agyin frimpong underscored the contribution of Tullow Ghana to the Ghana Air Force. According to him the Airforce base is poised in supporting the oil and gas sector to succeed.

Tullow Ghana also commissioned an ultra-modern office for its operations at the Takoradi Air force.
