Traders in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis lament the current prices of food products on the market. When Skyy News visited the Central Business District, some traders spoke about how the price increment is affecting business.
According to them, prices of products keep increasing each day, a trader revealed to Skyy News that that a tin of milk which used to sell at five cedis (GHs5) is now being sold at eight cedis (GHS8). This has caused them to run at a loss since the goods they have in stock are not being purchased due to their high prices.
The trader added that the situation sometimes causes them to dispose of their perishable goods since they keep expiring without being purchased.
Meanwhile, some traders also blamed their colleagues for hoarding food products with the aim of increasing the price of goods when the dollar rate rises.
They further appealed to the government to come to reduce duty rates.
A trader said. “The economy last year was relatively better as compared to this year. Prices of goods have increased, affecting us because some order goods from outside the country to sell. They find it difficult to run their business.
Due to the increase of prices on commodities, consumers intend not to purchase us as expected which cause perishable foods to get spoilt which put us at a loss also.”
