Teachers’ retention being challenged by sexual harassment- Wassa East Educ. Dir laments
It has been reported that the rate of teacher-transfers out of the Wassa East District is becoming much of concern for assembly and relevant stakeholders. Issues such as poor accommodation facilities, non-cooperating parental attitudes and sexual harassment meted out at some female teachers have become motivating factors causing dissatisfaction among newly posted teachers to the district, mostly deprived ones.
District Director of Education for Wassa East, Christina Ernestina Winful in her address at the 2019 Teachers’ Awards in Wassa East, noted that teachers requesting for transfers out of the district often cite these factors as justifications for their exit.
She charged the district assembly and other stakeholders to consider addressing this urgently to improve the educational system in the district.
