Black Stars captain Andre Ayew has been named as the new vice-captain of Championship side Swansea Football Club.
Andre’s appointment as vice-captain follows an earlier decision to name Matt Grimes as the substantive skipper of the Swans skipper in the summer by head coach Steve Cooper.
Swansea manager Steve Cooper who confirmed this at a pre match conference, spoke in glowing terms of Andre Ayew’s positive influence on the dressing room.
“Andre is a senior figure and a very positive influence around the group,” said Cooper.
“We are very lucky, we have players like Wayne Routledge, Nathan Dyer, and Kyle Naughton too.
“We know there is a bit of a status to being captain or vice-captain, but we do have senior figures in the squad.
“Andre is a good role model and leader, I think there is a good culture here everyone helps each other but pushes each other. That’s a good thing.”
Cooper and the rest of the Swans family will hope Andre will be influential off the pitch just as he is on the pitch where he has scored five goals in all competitions this season.
