Mayor for Sekondi Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly, Anthony. K.K Sam has boken ground for the development of recreational parks in and around the city. The project dubbed ‘City Garden Project’ will create greener spaces for relaxation and other outdoor events, as envisaged in the metro’s urbanization agenda.

The first of which, is to be developed by March, 2019 at Fijai, along the Fijai SHS- Government Secretariat, off the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital Junction -Sekondi road. Mayor for the city Anthony K. K Sam says the area would be developed into a modern park with an improved security, a snack bar among and other ancillary facilities.

He said that the project will add on to the tourism potentials of the city.

“After this one we will move to Monkey Hill and also develop that as a tourist site, which will serve equally the same purpose” he added.

Mr. K.K Sam mentioned that the assembly has taken the needed steps to secure already demarcated areas for such recreational centers, one of such areas lies along the PWD road.

“People thought they could be putting buildings there but we have issued a decree to stop developers from putting up structures there, so that in the near future, after the road expansion, people can go there for leisure. That is the purpose that belt was left for!” he stressed.

Prior to this initiative, a committee comprising of heads of schools in the vicinity, and other stakeholders was set up to offer ideas for the project. Head of the Committee, who is also the Head of School at Fijai Senior High School, Mr. Ken Agbomadzi shared that the site has been a major hideout for criminals, and that prayed that, the development of the area improves security for both students and residents.
