With the emergence of social media in this 21st century, the attention of young people have shifted away from traditional media such as television and the radio.
With the radio for instance, it has been tagged as a thing for the older generation as it is believed that most of the programs broadcast on the radio are not for the young.
In this regard, Skyy News spoke with some young people if indeed they don’t listen to the radio.
According to them, social media has become a substitute for the radio for the young person and the radio only becomes compulsory when they are in a commercial vehicle.
They made it known that they get to spend more time on their phones interacting with their friends on various social media platforms like Tiktok, Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram.
Even with that, some of the radio stations do live streaming where they get news updates from.
Others also noted that they get to listen to the radio when there is a football match.
With that, they get to follow the commentary, provided the match is not being aired on television.
On the contrary, some also said they enjoy listening to the radio because of the music that is played on some shows.
A youth said, “I only get to listen to the radio when I am in a commercial vehicle and the radio is on, I don’t listen to it at all, because all the information or whatever that will be said on the radio will be on social media platforms.”
“The only time I listen to the radio is when they are giving a football commentary and it’s not been shown on the TV.”
Another youth said, “I listen to the radio sometimes because of the music because the discussions are mostly not for the youth but for the elders.”
