SIEMENS Ghana through its Corporate Social Investment programme has handed over an ultra-modern ICT laboratory to the Sekondi College; a senior high school in Sekondi of the Western Region.
The ICT laboratory was refurbished with a total of forty-five new desktop computers with internet connect connectivity on a high speed server, a projector and a screen and many other accessories.
The gesture, according to the Country Manager for SIEMENS Ghana, Edmund Acheampong was a result of a need assessment taken in February 2017 on the school.
He detailed that, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed into, with the management of the school to support it with science and computer infrastructure.
“Under the agreement, SIEMENS Ghana focused on three key areas; donation of science experiment kits, renovation and refurbishment of SEKCO ICT laboratory, including the supply of computers for students and the provision of a support system for both teachers and students of the school” he noted.

Mr Acheampong intimated that the renovation and refurbishment of the school’s ICT laboratory is testament to their unwavering commitment to improving teaching and learning.
He stressed that the support given the school would enhance knowledge and skills development in the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics disciplines.
He entreated the students to make the best use of the opportunities given them to advance their studies. He also charged management and students in general to develop a maintenance culture that would safeguard the functionality of the facility for future generations.
Executive Director for SIEMENS South Africa, Ms. Rita Nkuhlu challenged the students to learn hard so they could feature on the upcoming International Science Expo in South Africa.

She disclosed that a scholarship prize await brilliant students in their final years, for a three and half year’s study in engineering, at their Engineering Academy in Berlin, Germany.
“We have a sponsorship prize in Engineering, and that is for the student that we see has the best potential in the engineering space” she said.
Elated by the news, Assistant Head of School, Kingsley Yankey expressed his gratitude to SIEMENS Ghana for honouring their promise.
He said “the ICT lab would not only promote the teaching and learning of ICT in the school but other schools in the metropolis”
On that background, Mr Yankey implored the SIEMENS Ghana to activate other components of the MoU.
