The Acting Paramount Queen Mother of the Shama Traditional Council, in the Western Region, Nana Akosua Gyamfiaba II is sending a strong warning to politicians after the Assorko leadership was sidelined from the 9-member committee to investigate the September 9, quarry explosion near Kobinandohkrom.
She claims that the Assorko chiefs and people are taking this development seriously since they believe that the quarry’s location was on Assorko territory and that the explosion had the biggest effect on their community.
Nana Gyamfiaba continued by saying not only was the Assorko leadership sidelined from the committee, but none of the numerous government officials who had visited the quarry scene paid a courtesy call on the chiefs of Assorko.
She indicated this is a sign of no respect for the traditional leaders of the land and is convinced that a grand scheme had been hatched to ignore the people of Assorko since they have been excluded from benefits associated with the explosion including the recent Medical screening for victims and community members organised by the Member of Parliament (MP) for Shama Constituency, Lawyer Erickson Abekah.”
Nana Gyamfiaba said since they are the custodians of that particular land, they have both spiritual and physical authority over the situation and that their involvement will play a key role.
She then indicated that no politician should bother visiting the Assorko community for any election campaign and expect the chiefs to be present or even be available for any durbar.
She said, “We will not be available to welcome any politician during their campaign visits to the community, because we are having other important matters to attend to.”
“Like what Kenny Agyapong said the last time, It will be a showdown this time round because after the incident happened, no politician has given us the needed respect to even visit and console the community members.”
“We have been completely neglected and we are also waiting for our time to come.”
