Sekondi MP donates dual desks and other education materials to education directorate
Member of Parliament for Sekondi Andrew Egyapa Mercer has donated over 300 dual desks, three office chairs, laptop computers, and a motor bicycle, totaling GHC93,000 to the Sekondi Takoradi Metropolitan education directorate for onward distribution to schools within the Sekondi Constituency.
The donation follows a request to the office of the Member of Parliament by the education directorate, requesting for logistical support. Mr. Andrew Egyapa Mercer indicated that the education support materials were procured through the constituency’s share of the GetFund and is aimed at improving teaching and learning in the constituency.
“It fills me with a sense of pride that we are putting our allocation of GetFund to good use. While I am member of parliament, public funds will be put to good, use and through the right procedure and to target those who immediately need it. These materials you see here today were procured through the constituency share of the Getfund following a request made by the education office, this is just the first part, there are more coming, I believe this will go a long way to help improve teaching and learning within the constituency,” he indicated.
Meanwhile, Andrew Mercer revealed that Ghana Gas has successfully released funds for the construction of a six-unit classroom block to replace the old dilapidated Aggrey memorial school at Bakaekyir.
Metropolitan Education Director, Mrs. Elizabeth Akuoko was appreciative of the gesture and promised the materials will be put to good use.
“We made a request and here we are with our member of parliament coming to our aid, we really appreciate this because we are in need of these materials, we are going to distribute them effectively and ensure they are put to good use. We would ask other groups and institutions who have the capacity to support us, to help in improving education infrastructure in our constituency” she indicated.
