Sanitation: STMA adopts digitized refuse container management system

Technology, they say has many applications. As the world evolves, so does our ways of manipulating the environment. Interestingly, this has found its place in waste management, as the Sekondi Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly is set to deploy an IT tracking system for its waste containers, which are to be distributed to various households and offices.

Environmental Health Officer at the STMA, Abdul Karim Hudu in an exclusive interview with Skyy News hinted of a collaboration with Zoomlion Ghana Limited to embark on this project.

“The refuse containers are going to be digitized so that if there is something wrong with it or when it is full, you could easily notify the service provider [waste collector]. We are now waiting for it to be done then we start this year” he clarified.

He said, about one million waste containers are being prepared for digitization, and shall be deployed in February this year.
