President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has justified the need for his intervention in granting the rusticated final years SHS student, an opportunity to sit for the exams. According to him, the sanction the Ghana Education Service gave to these students was appropriate but harsh in certain terms.

He argued that they were at a very terminal period in their academic and personal development.

In a briefing with the Western House of Chiefs, President of the House, Ogyeahoho Gyebi II on behalf of the chiefs, applauded the President for the fatherly consideration.

Reacting to which, President Nana Addo stressed he was not much surprised about the misbehaviour of these students.

He concluded that the sanctions as proffered by the GES could have severed a potential brighter future of the students.

“Some of these things happens but I think that the sanctions that they received was sufficient. I felt that banning them from taking the exams was making this sanction far too harsh. These exams are the key to hopefully, a productive life and to withdraw that key at such an early age, I felt that was too much and that is the reason for my intervention”.

Some of the students who were pardoned for spewing unprintable words about the President, over their disappointment in the Integrated Science Paper, were of Sekondi College, a prestigious Senior High School in the capital of the Western Region
