Two robbers have been gunned down by police personnel of the Asankragwa Division of the Ghana Police Service. The robbers who are yet to be identified locked into a fierce fire exchange with the police at Adowahu, a rural community in the Amenfi West Municipality of the Western Region.

One of the police officers suffered a gun wound and was rushed to the Asankragwa Roman Catholic Hospital for treatment. According to the Crime Officer of the Division, Henry Agbeve, “they got wind of an attempted robbery of a Chinese national and gold miner in the area.”

He disclosed that, a taskforce was quickly mobilised to scene.

The entire robbery according to the police was being carried out by four people. The robbers upon seeing them at the scenem started firing gun shots at the police officers, and they [police] returned fire, killing two of them in the process. Mr. Agbeve added that bodies of the deceased have been carried to the morgue and investigations underway.

The Amenfi West Municipality is considered a crime hotspot in the Western Region. Robberies are often reported in cocoa and gold mining communities

This time, the police is being smart with intelligence so they could save lives. The Regional Commander, DCOP Felix Fosu-Agyeman who took office this year is bent on wiping out crime in the region, and this could surely be a proof of his commitment.
