In recognition of their outstanding performance in service delivery and professionalism, MTN Ghana Limited is awarding some 550 Momo Agents and Merchants from across the country. The awardees comprising of 300 Agents and 250 Merchants were shortlisted from a very competitive assessment in terms of the volume of transaction, the value of transactions and adherence to laid down rules and regulations of the MOMO platform.
The award scheme since 2014, has recognized the effort of over 5000 operators [agents and merchants] in giving meaning to MTN’s digitized and cash-lite agenda in Ghana.
At an awards ceremony for the South East Business District [which covers the Accra, Eastern, Volta, and Oti Regions] held at the Center for National Culture, Koforidua, a total of 250 agents and merchants were awarded by MTN Ghana. The prizes included Cars, Motor Bikes, Phones, and Tablets.
Speaking at the awards ceremony, the Regional Senior Manager for South East Business, Peter Bimpeh remarked that the COVID-19 pandemic visit some unexpected challenge to their operators yet many were able to exceed their targets for the year. He noted that such efforts deserve to be commended and that MTN had proven to be appreciative of their performance.
“In spite of the challenging moments, you still demonstrated your commitment to growing the business by working to exceed the targets set for the year. The significance of your contribution to curbing the spread of COVID 19 cannot be overemphasized. The fact that people could easily locate you and send or receive money as and when they needed it most especially during the lockdown needs commendation. Due to your service, people handled less cash yet they were still able to transact and manage their businesses. Indeed, going forward, we expect to see steady growth in the uptake of our business.”
Mr. Bimpeh stressed that the company is still very critical of fighting MOMO fraud in the system especially when the platform continues to grow. He entreated the public to remain vigilant and keep to the safety tips provided by MTN.
“As we begin the festive season, we will like to urge all our partners and customers to remain vigilant in the fight against fraud. Fraudsters keep revising their strategies as we continue to intensify our education and enhance our internal process. In all of this, the 3 golden rules serve as our weapon in the fight: do not disclose your pin, don’t let others transact on your behalf, and do not discuss your wallet with any stranger,” he noted.
The remaining beneficiaries will be awarded in the coming weeks. The grand prize of an SUV 4×4 Toyota Rush will be presented to the ultimate winner.
