Open Defecation: “Its wrong to score an entire metropolis zero”- Environmental Officer rubbishes CDD’s DLT
Metropolitan Environmental Health Officer at the Sekondi Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly Abdul Karim Hudu has rubbished the latest ratings given in a Center for Democratic Development’s District League Table.
The STMA was rated zero and ranked 86th with 131 other districts in the county in terms of effort made at attaining open defecation free state.
This ratings has however not been received lightly by city authorities. According to Mr Hudu, score is not representative of facts on gains made by the metro to curb the menace. He reiterated that the assembly has about 13 communities out of 28 passing a benchmark set by the Sanitation Challenge for Ghana.
“They [CDD] are suppose to do some verification…come onto the ground. We don’t know how they do it. We don’t see them” he added.
“They shouldn’t say we had zero in for the whole metropolis” he fired.
Mr Hudu continued that the assembly would continue to sanction persons that engage in the act, and even households that fail to put up a decent toilet facility in their compound.
