Following the mass destruction of the country’s forest reserves and water bodies by the activities of illegal miners commonly known as galamsey.
The Chiefs within Sefwi Mmrewa in the Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Municipality of the Western-North Region have entreated the deities to deal with anyone who take part in illegal mining on the land.
The Chiefs and the community performed a mass ritual to shield their natural resources, according to the chief linguist of the town.
Okyeame Panin Nana Amoah, explained, the reason for the ritual was to seek the help of the gods to protect the rivers and forest lands against any illegal miners.
The rituals was executed at Asuo Wurom for the gods pound dead on those participating in the activities in areas, such as Mmrewa, Nkronua and Monze forest reserve.
The Chief Linguist Okyeame Amoah revealed that, the biggest forest reserve is located at Manze and said, “Those who are involved or behind the illegal mining activities, whether government Officials, individual in the area, politicians, the great gods of our land and Rivers will deal with them”.
He further added that, the forest is important to the chiefs and people in the area to the extent that they will do anything physical and spiritual to keep the land from the illegal miners.
