A group affiliated with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is calling on the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo to sack their MCE as soon as possible.
The group, Gwira Youth Association in a press conference on Tuesday, April 27, 2021, indicated that the Municipal Chief Executive for Nzema East, Mr. Frank Okpenyen has failed the entire area.
According to the leader of the group, Redford Asmah, the MCE has been disrespecting traditional authorities in the area.
He alleges that the MCE together with the former Member of Parliament for the area in 2019 opened gun fire at the palace of Bamiankor for no reasons.
Redford Asmah adds that the MCE has also failed in his duties and deserves no chance.
“On the 9th of November 2019, the current MCE in the company of the former MP, Hon. Catherine Afeku visited our Traditional capital, Bamiankor, and stood before our palace, without any provocation fired several gunshots, scaring everybody, men and women had to run for their lives without knowing what was happening”. Mr. Redford Asmah added.
The youth group further indicated that Mr. Frank Okpenyen led the Municipality to perform poorly in the ranking of MDDAs in the country.
Mr. Redford Asmah added that out of the 216 MMDAs in Ghana, the Nzema East Municipality attained the 215th position.
“We remain the food basket of the region. The current MCE for Nzema East Municipal, Hon. Frank Okpenyen, has done his bit but did not help the course of the municipality. The current Assembly rankings placed the Nzema East Municipality at the 215th position out of the 216 MMDAs”. He added.
The angry youth further argued in the Press conference that the municipality in made up of Gwira, Ajomoro, and Evelue. However nobody from Gwira has ever been appointed as an MCE in any NPP governmnet.
They are calling on the President to sack Mr. Frank Okpenyen and instead appoint someone from the Gwira area.
“We are by this press conference highlighting our plight and appealing to his Excellency Nana Akufo Addo to consider a Gwira in his MMDCEs appointment in his second term. When this is done, we will feel recognized and be grateful for the opportunity”. Mr. Redford Asmah added.
In the meantime, the MCE who is seeking another term to serve has refuted all the allegations leveled against him by the youth group.
