On Wednesday, 22nd March 2023, the Skills Training Towards Employment and Productivity Project (STEP) under the National Youth Authority presented training equipment to some selected youth in Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipality to enable them to go through apprenticeship programmes.

STEP is a set of artisan skills and training programmes tailored for skilled, semi-skilled and unskilled youth in Ghana to enable them to take advantage of employment and entrepreneurial opportunities.

The equipment includes sewing machines, makeup kits, and hair dryers among others.

Chief Executive Officer for the National Youth Authority, Pius Enam Hadzide speaking during the presentation disclosed that the initiative is part of the government’s effort to reduce the rate of unemployment in the country.

He advised the youth to take the opportunity seriously and also admonished trainers to desist from sending trainees on unnecessary errands.

He said, “Take this opportunity seriously and take advantage to equip yourself… those who are not yet married, abstain from sex or try avoiding pregnancy during your training so you can complete the project.”

Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipal Chief Executive Hon. Benjamin Kessie commended the government on such an initiative and cautioned the beneficiaries to capitalize on the opportunity given to them.
