Some fuel stations in the Western Region have been closed down by the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) as a result of tampering with their fuel pumps. According to the NPA, this is part of its routine exercise.
This comes after frequent complaints about some fuel stations cheating their customers by adjusting their pumps to maximise profit. The Consumer Services Department at the Head office and the Western Regional Office of the NPA spearheaded this exercise.
Mohammed Abdul-Kudus, the Communications Manager of the NPA told Skyy News in an interview that it is against their laws and an offence for fuel stations to sell fuel to customers below the required litre.
He said, “This exercise comes as a result of numerous complaints from customers, when complaints are made within 48 hours of the purchase of fuel, prompt investigation can be carried out and the truth established before that product is sold out”.
“Majority of the stations passed the test but only two (2) fuel stations failed so we took action against them.”
He however did not put the names of the fuel stations out but warned others who are in practice to put a stop to it.
