No more cash disbursement for PWDs- STMA Fund Management tells PWDs

The Disability Fund Management Committee of the Sekondi Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly has re-emphasised the discontinuation of cash handouts to Persons with Disabilities. This deliberate action was announced to beneficiaries of a recent disbursement by the assembly, in a bid to get PWDs refrain from misapplying the support they receive.

Chairman of the committee, Abu Seidu justified that the decision is informed by observations taken during monitoring visits on beneficiaries. He noted that most of them had been misapplying the funds they received.

He cited an instance where the committee decided to procure items including provisions and even charcoal for beneficiaries who requested to trade with them.

Mr Abu argued that the new arrangements would make monitoring far effective and also help the department of social welfare assess beneficiaries’ progress towards economic wellbeing and independence.
