Director of Public Affairs for the Ghana Police Service, Sheilla Kessie Abayie-Buckman has hinted that a reporting framework is being developed to enable police personnel report media practitioners over any form of misconduct.
Mrs. Abayie-Buckman explained that this framework is just like the complaint desks or the Police Professional Standards Bureau, and would offer both police personnel and media a uniform platform to have their grievances regarding abuse or misconduct addressed.
“…we are coming out with a frame work which will also give Police officers the opportunity to also report media people who might abused them.” she said.
She urged the media to always resort to the appropriate authorities or channels to register any complaint about the conduct of a police officer, that she believed will bring some amicable solution to any misunderstanding.
“Please you can report, within the police structure, every police officer has a senior or a command person you can report to. It can be the senior office or the senior man,it can be a junior or senior officer who is head of the operation at that particular point in time.
“It can be the station officer,it can be the district commander,it can be the divisional commander, and then we also have the PIPS, this is PPSB now (The Police Professional Standard Bureau) that checks misconduct of Police officers, so there is always an avenue to report so that it can be investigated and if the officer needs to be punished, the officer will be punished.” she noted.
