The DCE of Wassa East, Wilson Arthur has asserted that families must play crucial role in the development of the nation. He made these assertion at the Special General Meeting of Wassa East District Assembly for the hearing and approval of the Medium Term Development Plan of the district.
According to the business mogul and owner of Skyy Media Group, the family is the basic unit of the nation, and it is the families that that make up a community, a district and the nation at large. For this, the family can be instrumental in all facets of national development – education, health, economic empowerment, etc.
When individuals take it upon themselves to ensure family members develop, it goes a long way to affect national development. “There are examples of families where one person took it upon himself to help members to acquire education, get employed, and in some cases send them abroad and the family becomes very wealthy.
The prosperity of such families feeds into national development.
Mr. Arthur opined that government alone cannot ensure total development for everyone, it needs the support of the family units.
He said government is committed to developing the Wassa East District, however, the families and community leaders will have to compliment government’s efforts to ensure palpable development.
The General Meeting is to afford the assembly to render accounts on the previous year and get the assembly to approve the budget for the medium term development plan from 2022 to 2025.
Nana Essel Bediako, the Presiding Member for Wassa East District also spoke to Skyy Power 93.5FM saying, the program is done every 4 years which the people, chiefs and development partners gather to deliberate on the Medium Term Development Plan for the district.
He also indicated the Medium Term Development Plan is required by law to have the participation of every member in the community and not the assembly alone which they will later go on to impose their plan on the people.
This, he said is because sometimes development may require demolition of peoples building and clearing of farms and with these, the people need to be aware and they themselves must be involved in the planning to desist any misunderstanding.
