In 2009, MTN according to Shaibu Haruna decided to redefine the course of Ghana’s financial sector with the introduction of mobile money. With a little over a decade, the success stories he indicated are visible for all to see.
He was of the conviction that this has come about because of the unwavering commitment and contributions of its partners, customers and other stakeholders.
He extolled the former CEO of MoMo Eli Hini for his enormous contribution to the growth of the company’s digital payment platform.
“Many people have played major roles in the MoMo success story, however, permit me to use this opportunity to single out and acknowledge the remarkable efforts of one man who has played a very instrumental and critical role in Momo’s evolution. Let us give our former CEO Eli Hindi a big of applause in appreciation for how far MoMo has come under his leadership”, he stressed.
“The far-reaching results and success of this service have been championed by three categories of people. I speak of agents, merchants and mobile money agents.”
Mr Shaibu Haruna continued that “with the support from 250,000 agent points across all sixteen regions of the country, our numerous
customers nationwide can make transactions wherever and whenever they need to.”
“MTN Mobile Money is currently running several initiatives aimed at stimulating the adoption and usage of Mobile Money to facilitate payments. One of the key initiatives the company is focusing on is the use of our payment solution known as MoMo Pay to facilitate everyday payment for goods and services. We are targeting women in female-dominated segments including the general goods market, petty traders, wholesale and retail corridors, females within the farming value chain and largely any activity which involves buying and selling. The goal is to get them to use MoMo Pay, leverage our varying products and services to manage their daily interactions and overall improve financial literacy.”
