According to a fraud and security expert, Mr. Richard Kumadoe, the military men who were seen in a video brutalising civilians in Wa of the Upper West Region are ignorant of their role as security men.
Speaking on a video that surfaced on the internet on Thursday, July 1, military men were seen assaulting civilians in the street of Wa and per information on why they were doing so, one of their colleague’s phone was missing.
This has drawn mix reaction from Ghanaians as they think, the military who are to protect and serve the citizens have gone on rampage to brutalise and kill civilians which they also related the Ejura incident where two people were killed.
Mr. Kumadoe speaking on Skyy Power 93.5FM’s Jolly Breakfast Show on Friday, July 2, explained that some military men think they have been empowered to take the lives of other people because the government do not punish offenders of similar incidents.
However, he indicated the leadership in the country has failed on several grounds concerning military and police brutality which has made the security men think; they are immune of punishment when they commit an offence.
He said ” When things of this nature happens in developed countries that we are learning democracy from, you will see all the leaders in charge hold a press conference the next day to take the necessary actions to solve the issue. What do we see in Ghana, nothing.”
Mr. Kumodoe also made it known we tend to politicise everything in this country which desist people from taking responsibility of their actions. According to him, there is no proper leadership in the country and everyone tends to do whatever they like because there are no good leaders.
Moreover, he indicated politicians being heads of security agencies in the country is also a factor for the bad leadership role we are facing. Explaining that politicians being heads of security will always be shady when probing into matters that affects the agencies because they do not want to make their government unpopular.
Moreover, he promised the general public that he and his team have taken responsibility to investigate the matter to know the bottom line of it and let the general public know the truth behind the military’s action.
