The Ghana Chamber of Mines has assured of its support for local refinery companies in improving their output, through certification. According to them, the capacity of these local enterprises are without doubt and could be enhanced when given the needed support.
Chief Executive Officer for the Chamber, Sulemanu Koney at the on-going Ghana Gold Expo, demonstrated that entities such as the Gold Coast Refinery [the only certified gold refinery in Ghana] , have been a major beneficiary of their technical support in adding value to locally mined gold.
He indicated that the chamber welcomes productive collaborations with local refineries that seek to have their operations certified.
“Let’s work to ensure that local refineries have the required certification so they can do business with the mining firms. We have no inhibition at all, we are more than prepared to work with any local refinery but lets make sure that we have the required certification” he justified.
The Ghana Standards Authority is the only certifying body of all processed or refined precious metals in Ghana. It has the Ghana Standards GS 1240:2018, that provides specifications and guidelines for the hallmarking of gold and other precious metals.
