“Kotoko Qualify to Play in CAF Champions League If League Is Cancelled”- Felix Annan Declares
Asante Kotoko captain Felix Annan is confident that his club will represent Ghana in next year’s CAF Champions League should the 2019/2020 league be called off. Relying on CAF Champions League Regulations, Annan is confident that the GFA would evoke the necessary statutory provisions to declare Kotoko Ghana’s reps for the Champions league if the league is annulled.
“Per what I know about CAF rules, we (Asante Kotoko) are still eligible to play in the champions league [if the league is cancelled]; the CAF rules state that if a season is not completed, or cancelled or suspended, because of a problem, the previous champions are to represent the country”, he told Skyy Power FM in Takoradi.
Section IV Clause VI of the CAF Champions League Regulations states “If for any reason, the national league of a federation did not take place, the federation in question has the right to submit the participation request of the same club(s) engaged having played the national league from the previous season”.
“If the league is suspended or cancelled, I think we [Kotoko]are still eligible to play in the champions league, he posited.
The Ghana Premier League is on suspension following the outbreak of global pandemic COVID 19.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Football Association is yet to take a decision on the fate of the 2019/2020 league season.
