The Western Region is a powerhouse of Ghana football, producing the best of players for the various national teams.
In the 1982 African Cup of Nations, the skipper of Black Stars was a westerner playing for Sekondi Hasaacas, the region has produced a lot of stars such as Emmanuel Quarshie, the Paha brothers, Edward Acquah, Nkesia Yawson but now these two clubs lack resources.
There have been several calls on the Regional Minister to step in to support them.
According to the Minister, both Hasaacas and Wise have called on him for support since they are traditional clubs of the region.
He said, “Sekondi Hasaacas and Sekondi Xi Wise came to me for temporal help but told them to bring me their business plan but are yet to, I don’t believe in last-minute things like ‘Lalasulala’ to play just one match”,
“I don’t understand why private clubs are doing better than traditional clubs, look at Wilson Arthur, he’s single-handedly managing Skyy FC and he’s getting results, how much more Wise and Hasaacas with numbers, we need to sustain these clubs with a good business plan”
Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah has declared to support these clubs on business structures, “Football is business, not entertainment again, we can make money out of it”
Sekondi Hasaacas are now in Division One whiles Sekondi Xi Wise are in Division Two.
