A member of the New Patriotic Party Communications team for the Tarkwa Nsuaem Constituency Ghariba Timothy has expressed deep remorse for spewing “lies” against the persona of Western Region Secretary of the party and Presidential Staffer Charles Bissue.
He has also begged for forgiveness for threatening to mutilate and kill Charles Bissue should he set foot in Tarkwa.
In the run up to the December 2020 General elections, Charles Bissue was accused of supporting an Independent Candidate in the Tarkwa Nsuaem Constituency Joy Joyclyn Andoh against the party’s candidate, the incumbent Member of Parliament George Mireku Duker.
This was based on unsubstantiated claims that the regional secretary Charles Bissue and the MP George Mireku Duker had become sworn enemies after he [Charles Bissue] failed to release an excavator belonging to the MP caught engaging in illegal mining.
Perhaps angered by Mr. Bissue’s refusal to release the said excavator and events thereafter Ghariba Timothy a known confidante of the MP Mr. Mireku Duker began a series of scattering attacks on Mr. Bissue.
Mr. Gariba made several voice notes accusing Mr. Bissue of sabotaging the electoral fortunes of the MP and threatened to kill him.
“You Charles Bissue, if you are a man set foot in Tarkwa, you will regret it. That independent candidate in Tarkwa that you are supporting was your girlfriend and you were having sex with her. You took her 400 million so she can contest Duker. You will see what will happen. The other time when the President came to Tarkwa, you were very lucky that you left earlier than expected, like you will see what will happen to you. That day, maybe your body would not have been found If you are a man set foot in Tarkwa, we are warning you. You will regret ever being born. Don’t try coming to Tarkwa. That day, will be your end. Thief,” Gariba threatened in a voice note.
The audio recording of his dastardly act went viral and was reported by several media houses. Alarmed by the threats on his life, Charles Bissue took the matter to court. After several court sitting, the family of Timothy Gariba pleaded for an out-of-court settlement.
Finality was brought to the case at the palace of Nana Kobina Nketsia V on Wednesday, April 14, 2021, who’s elders sat on the case. Timothy Gariba rendered an unqualified apology to Mr. Charles Bissue and expressed regret for tarnishing his image.
A remorseful-looking Timothy Gariba added that everything he said against Charles Bissue were lies and asked for forgiveness.
“I Gariba Timothy, from the Tarkwa Nsuaem Constituency do apologize to Mr. Charles Bissue for all the lies I have peddled against him in the social media. I’m here to apologize and ask for forgiveness. I promise that I will never do such a thing in my life to any other person again. Kindly forgive me for I regret tarnishing your hard-earned image. Once again I’m very sorry”, his apology read
In response, Mr. Charles Bissue accepted the apology and asked that a sheep he [Ghariba Timothy] had brought to help solidify his clemency be given back to him.
He advised that politics must be done without insults and encourage young men in the party not be allowed to be used by anyone seeking a position for his or her selfish gains. He says there are structures in the NPP to deal with grievances and insults must never be an option.
“We are all working for the party. But mostly, people insult in the name of politics. It’s not the best to rain insults on elders with no basis to the extent of even threatening their lives. That should not be the case in our politics. If a party member offends you, there are laid down procedures to follow but if you decide to insult, then people will even go to the extent of insulting the President”. He noted.
Mr. Charles Bissue advised party members to be guided by principles and avoid unnecessary verbal attacks.
“I will advise all party members to be guided that politics is not about insults. This should not happen in our generation. I have forgiven him, but everyone must know there are rules that govern the NPP”. He noted.
