Each and every day price of food commodities keeps increasing in Ghana due to the cedi value depreciating against the dollar.
Fuel prices keep increasing and the Russia-Ukraine war as we have been told is a factor contributing to the course.
Some people also believe that traders have taken advantage and are overpricing their products.
Because of the increment of goods and services at our markets people nowadays can’t eat three square meals a day.
People have turned their agenda on gari and beans (Gobe) because they think when consumed, can last for a longer time which has led to an increase in demand and prices as well.
Skyy News wanted to find reasons gobe price has skyrocketed in a very short period of time.
Speaking to Madam Felicia Abdullah, a food vendor at first Port Junction on the Takoradi/Cape Coast Highway, said Government cannot give money to all Ghanaians nor distribute food from house to house but Enforcement Agencies must be sent to our Market centres to take data on business in terms of products buying and how much profit are they gaining after sales.
She noted that they should do proper data analysis to reveal the sources of the high cost of food commodities in our market.
Also, she also said people nowadays don’t patronise gobe (Gari and Beans) as they used to do some months ago.
She said, “People think that we the sellers are cruel but it’s not like that, the price of a bad of beans has increased from Ghc 570.00 to Ghc850.00 you will buy palm oil plus gari, and the price of oil has increased while the gari container that they used to buy it at Ghc 20.00 is now sales at ghc30.00.”
“If someone buys beans GHC4.00 that person won’t buy gari or oil. This means you have to do your calculations well so that you won’t run at lost,” she added.
