The Ghana National Petroleum Corporation Foundation (GNPC) on Thursday, August 24, 2023, commissioned a fully furnished six-unit classroom block at Atobiase in the Wassa East District of the Western Region.
The new six-unit classroom block has a seating capacity of 216 with each of the six classrooms having electrical installation to help students in their studies.
Handing over the facility to the community Dr. Dominic Eduah, the Executive Director of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation Foundation, charged the community to ensure that the facility is handled properly so it can inspire the foundation to assist with more projects.
He also used the opportunity to talk about other projects being done by the Foundation in the Western Region.
Nana Kweku Bukru II, the Chief of Atobiase, in his speech, said all the 160 students that sat for the Basic Examination Certificate Exams passed with 13 attaining top grades.
He asserted that if the students were able to do that in the old dilapidated building then surely, they can do better in the new one constructed by the foundation.
Nana Kweku Bukru II, made a passionate appeal to the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation Foundation for a Senior High School in the town, because it is very difficult for parents from the town to send their wards to Senior High School since their main source of income is farming and having a senior high school in the community will be of great help.
The Contractor of the project James Opoku Bossman of Jobs Engineering Works Limited said the Atobiase DA Basic School project began in 2021 and was completed in January 2023.
