GhPL WK8 Round Up: WAFA hold Kotoko, Dwarfs stun Aduana at Cape Coast.
Berekum Chelsea returned to top of the table in the Ghana Premier League with a 1-0 win over Karela United. Enterprising Zakaria Fuseini’s early second half strike was enough to win maximum points as Berekum Chelsea returned to winning ways at the Golden City Park on Wednesday afternoon after last Sunday’s defeat to Bechem United.
Elsewhere Asante Kotoko drew blank away to West Africa Football Academy at Sogakope (WAFA). The result is Kotoko’s second successive visit to the Red Bull Arena without a defeat. The result also extends WAFA’s poor home run this season where they have lost to Liberty Professionals and have dropped points to both Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko.
At the Akoon Park in Tarkwa, title chasing Medeama S.C left it late to beat Bechem United with a 97th minute strike from Akwasi Donsu. Donsu’s stoppage time strike is the first of the season and could be vital for the two time F.A Cup winners as it came on a day title rivals Aduana Stars and Asante Kotoko have both dropped points. The result leaves Medeama in third place with 16 points.
In other games, Ebusua Dwarfs recorded an emphatic 3-1 win over Aduana Stars in Cape Coast. Dwarfs scored a quick-fire double through Michael Asamoah and Seidu Abubakar to take a two goal load into recess. Back from the recess, Aduana Stars halved the deficit through Yahaya Mohammed from the spot but the result was put beyond doubt by Isaac Donkor’s thunder bolt of a strike with a quarter of an hour remaining. The result is Dwarfs first win of the season but they will remain bottom of the log for the time being, while Aduana drop to second with 16 points.
