President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Mr Kurt Okraku says players who represented the nation at the ongoing African Cup of Nations were the best available to Ghana.
He said it means that any better player who was not part of the squad was not available at the time of selection.
The FA President was speaking on Skyy Power 93.5FM’s Jolly Breakfast Show on Thursday, January 20, 2022.
The Black Stars exited from the group stage of the AFCON after losing to Comoros which is the worse performance of the team in sixteen (16) years.
He said though the local players selected to be part of the team did not play, football fans should be proud that these players were in the first place recognized by the technical team and subsequently got a call up into the national team.
He said, “First of all, we should be proud that some of our players who played in our domestic league were able to gain recognition by the technical team and were selected.
“I don’t think there has ever been a time whereas this number of local players have been ever selected to represent the country at the international stage, it is historic and that alone is a big achievement for our players.”
Mr Kurt Okraku also chronicled a number of achievements his administration has done which he said was proud of.
He said, “We should be proud of what we have achieved by the way of administrative restructuring, resumption of all football competition across the country, our investment and revival in juvenile football across all the ten regions, we’ve brought back all the domestic competitions, women’s football competition and others.”
Mr Okraku indicated that his team has done extremely well from where they took Ghana since they have revived all competitions and there is also more investments in the game now even though is not enough.
