Yaa Serwaa Legacy Institute on Sunday, July 9, 2023, marked an important step in the quest to transform the future of education in Nketia with a groundbreaking sod-cutting ceremony for its new primary and junior high school.
The event gathered members of the community, stakeholders, and board members, signifying the shared commitment to creating an empowering educational environment.
Four board members of the institute, President Ameria Alleyne from Brooklyn, New York, VP Corey Fleming from New Jersey, Neal Currie from Albany, New York and O. Kwame Boakye Jr, the youth representative made a special trip from the United States to Ghana to participate in this historic event. Their presence highlighted the international commitment to this cause.
Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated’s Gamma Alpha Sigma Zeta chapter, which has adopted the construction of the school as its Legacy Project, also joined the ceremony.
During the event, the sorority representative emphasized the importance of education as a transformative tool and shared their plans to focus on STEM disciplines at the school, equipping the students to excel in an increasingly technology-driven world.
Shermaine Moore Boakye, founder of Yaa Serwaa Legacy Institute, shared her insights during the ceremony. She said, “This groundbreaking ceremony symbolizes our collective commitment to shaping a brighter future. By investing in our children’s education, we are nurturing seeds of hope, creativity, and resilience.”
She continued with a call to action, urging the community to continue supporting the project beyond the sod-cutting ceremony. “While today marks a significant milestone, it is but the first step in a long journey.
Together, with your continued support and belief in our cause, we will transform the educational landscape in Nketia and create lasting change,” Moore-Boakye remarked.
The Yaa Serwaa Legacy Institute extends its deepest appreciation to all who attended and contributed to the success of the ceremony.
