Ghana Manganese orders closure of Hospital at Nsuta as nurse dies of coronavirus

Management of Ghana Manganese Company Limited have ordered the closure of their hospital at Nsuta in the Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipality, following the death of a senior nurse who is reported to have contracted the novel coronavirus.

A notice issued by the company read; “This unfortunate incident has resulted in the immediate closure of GMC hospital and all hospital staff asked to undergo self-isolation for Covid test to be conducted”

“Management entreats all to be calm as every effort is being made to stem the spread of the Virus within the Nsuta community” the statement added.

Staff of the company have been entreated to adhere strictly to preventive measures as health professionals do the needful to contain the situation.

“The deadly corona virus has finally found its way to the doorstep of GMC. Therefore, the need to strictly adhere to the outlined protective protocols to safeguard us against the Covid-19 pandemic can not be over-emphasized. Management will continue to monitor the situation and keep the entire workforce informed about developments and elevated measures that will be taken” a section of the statement read.

Public Relations Officer of GMC, Omar Sauty Timtey says operations at their mines have not been affected, and that entreated the public to allay such fears.

He said that management of GMC is scheduled to have an emergency meeting tomorrow to determine the way forward.
