The newly built sea defence at Funko, a town in the Ahanta West District of the Western Region is now used as a defecating site by some residents.
This has been a major problem for the town Assembly deeming the act as one, that hinders development and progress.
According to Mr Ntiful, the Assemblyman in the area, several attempts has been made through engagements with residents to desist from this diabolic act.
These engagements with residents have not been fruitful as he disclosed that, no matter how he confronts the perpetrators, they are not ready to change or to listen to any advice.
He said, “I have spoken to most of the residents to desist from the act, but some of them are not ready to change regardless of how many times you engage or advise them about the effects towards the community.”
“Not that there is no public toilet in the community, we have one here but it’s the decision of some unscrupulous people to destroy everything that will benefit us in a positive way.”
However, Mr Intiful, including the chief and his elders have been given the mandate to involve the police and other security agencies to patrol the beaches and also prosecute offenders who defecate on the sea defences.
He said, “We will enact the bye-laws in the town and also use the constitutional laws against offenders and make defecating on the sea defence not attractive anymore, anyone found will be prosecuted.”
